The idea

BlownPhrases starts with a sentence laid out in letter tiles. Then it crashes: the tiles break into small pieces that tumble into a heap at the bottom of the board. One by one the pieces rise back, and your job is to steer each one to the exact spot it came from. The glowing letters in the sentence above show where the rising piece belongs.

  • Home or nothing. A piece locks only at its own place in the sentence. Guide it anywhere else and it falls back onto the heap to try again.
  • Read, then place. The pieces are fragments of real words, so the puzzle is as much about reading as about spatial thinking: a piece holding TH and E can only be one place in the phrase.
  • Levels are rows. Level one is a sentence that fits on a single row of eleven tiles; level six is a six-row quotation. The higher the level, the more pieces and the longer the puzzle.
  • Hyphenation like a book. When a word does not fit the row it breaks by syllables, with a real hyphen tile, so every sentence reads naturally on the board.

Controls

Buttons under the board, or gestures on it.

  • Left / Right — move the rising piece one tile sideways. Gesture: tap the left or right half of the board, or swipe horizontally.
  • Rotate — turn the piece a quarter turn. Gesture: swipe down.
  • Raise — send the piece straight up to its row. Gesture: swipe up. Faster placement earns more points.
  • Hint — briefly lights the piece's home in the sentence. Halves the points for that piece.
  • Play — starts the next sentence at any time.
  • Level — the LEVEL label at the top is a dropdown: pick one to six rows, or MY SENTENCE. marks the levels that need Premium.
  • Help — an interactive tour: a hand walks you through every button and plays a whole sentence for you.
  • Settings — sound, ghost piece, mode, language, Premium, sentence packs, How to play and About.

Three modes

  • Easy — the home of every piece is shown as it rises.
  • Normal — homes are shown only when you ask for a hint; a piece with no letters at all always gets one.
  • Hard — nothing is shown. You read the sentence, you find the place.

Scoring

Every letter placed is worth points, multiplied by the level. Placing a piece on the first try doubles them, raising it fast adds half again, and a hint halves them. A finished sentence pays a bonus, doubled for a perfect run with no misses. Easy mode scores at half rate, Hard at a quarter more.

Six languages, six libraries

English, Russian, French, German, Spanish and Chinese, each with its own sentence packs for every level, from one-row warm-ups to six-row epics. The interface follows your choice, and progress is kept separately per language. Chinese sentences flow character by character, punctuation included, with no invented spaces.

Sound

Each piece tears off the sentence with a small explosion and a note from a pentatonic scale, one step higher per piece. Docking a piece back home replays its note, so a solved sentence plays its own melody in reverse.
